Legendary Sunil Gavaskar hailed Shubman Gill’s temperament after India won the fourth Test match against England by five wickets at Ranchi. With this win, India took an impregnable lead of 3-1 in the series and has now won 17 consecutive series at home.
Gill scored a gutsy knock of 52 runs to help India get over the line in the run-chase of 192. India was struggling at 120-5 however Gill and Dhruv Jurel bailed the hosts out of trouble as they added 72 runs for the sixth wicket.
“To keep his cool, speaks very highly of Gill’s temperament. I have always said that it’s temperament that separates men from boys. And our youngsters are becoming men and that’s such a heartening aspect as far as Indian cricket is concerned,” said Gavaskar on India Today.
“To come out with the 2 innings that he did, particularly the innings he played today, was not easy. Ben Stokes’ field placements were outstanding. He made it look as if India were chasing 150 and not 192,” he added.
In fact, Gill was under pressure after a couple of low scores in the opening Test. However, he scored a fine knock of 104 runs in the second Test match at Vizag. The youngster continued his good show in Rajkot as he scored 91 runs in the second innings.
Gill has scored 342 runs in four Test matches of the ongoing series at an average of 48.86 and he is the second-highest run-getter in the series.
The Little Master added that everybody’s expectations have been huge from Shubman Gill since he started his career.
“His performances, not just here, but when he started his international career, have been so good that everybody’s expectations were high. When that happens, people start questioning when you get a couple of low scores,” said Gavaskar.
The fifth and final Test match will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala from March 7
