IND vs ENG 2024: Yashasvi Jaiswal understands the DNA of the game – Aakash Chopra lauds opener after double century

Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra said Yashasvi Jaiswal understands the DNA of the game after the youngster scored a fantastic double century. Jaiswal scored a majestic knock of 214 runs in the second innings of the third Test match against England at Rajkot.

The southpaw has scored three centuries in his young career and all three of them have been daddy hundreds, all 150+, including two double centuries.

Jaiswal scored a fine knock of 214 runs in the second innings of the third Test match against England at Rajkot, including 14 fours and 12 sixes, the joint-most in a Test innings along with Wasim Akram and helped India register their biggest Test win of 434 runs.

Jaiswal became only the third Indian, after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli, to score double hundreds in two consecutive Tests, and the seventh Indian overall to score more than 200 in the second innings. The left-hander has amassed 545 runs in the first three Test matches against England at an average of 109 and a strike rate of 81.10.

“Jaiswal is a terrific guy. He had already hit a hundred, he scored a double hundred – unbeaten 214 off 236 balls, what a player. He is playing at a different level. He hit 12 sixes despite having pain in his back. He equaled Wasim Akram’s world record. He has just started playing cricket, it was just his seventh Test match, and in that, he has scored two double hundreds and a score of 171,” said Chopra on his YouTube Channel.

The reputed commentator feels Jaiswal’s career start is similar to Vinod Kambli. But the former Mumbai batter had veered off the track due to off-field issues and Chopra feels Jaiswal will not head in the same direction.

“He reminds you a little bit about the start of Vinod Kambli’s career. He was also a left-hander who used to play spin very well. Jaiswal also plays spin very well. Of course, Kambli’s career didn’t pan out the way it should have because of a few off-field issues,” said Chopra.

“I don’t think Jaiswal will have the same issue because he is very sincere, talented and hard-working. He understands the game’s DNA. He took Jimmy Anderson down and how – he hit three sixes in an over. Once he reached 180, he said he won’t be in a hurry. He is not satisfied with a century,” Chopra added.

India and England will next take on each other at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi in the fourth Test match from Friday.
