India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour has heaped praise on Arshdeep Singh. Rathour said that the young fast bowler has the temperament and composure to handle pressure. Singh had impressed while playing for Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 and thus received a maiden call-up into the squad.
The left-arm pacer has been right on the money in the death overs and he has been accurate in executing his yorkers at the fag end of the innings. Singh was asked to save seven runs in the Super four match of the Asia Cup against Pakistan and Sri Lanka and he was able to take the game to the penultimate ball in both games.
The 23-year-old youngster was rested for the three-match series against Australia and he will return to the squad for the series against South Africa.
“At this level, we are not really telling them anything. Arsh has been doing pretty well in the IPL in the last 2-3 years and he has done well bowling in the death overs. We just support them to follow their plans, and strengths and they know where to bowl to each batter. They have their own plans, their own way of bowling to batters,” Rathour was quoted as saying.
“As team management, we just have discussions to back their strengths and whatever the team plans are. No specific areas but for a young kid who has just come into international cricket, so far he has shown the temperament and composure to handle pressure and bowl well in difficult conditions. So as far we are concerned, we are pretty happy with the way he is progressing,” he added.
Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh has scalped 14 wickets in 11 T20I matches at an impressive economy rate of 7.38. However, the youngster had to take a lot of trolling and criticism after he dropped Asif Ali’s catch in the Super four contest against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
The first T20I between India and South Africa will be played on Wednesday.
