India’s rookie batter Suryakumar Yadav has stated that Rohit Sharma is wonderfully leading from the front since taking over the captaincy duties.
Rohit has all the experience under his belt as a leader and he has savored great success while captaining Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Rohit is the most successful IPL captain as he has taken the team to five titles.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has made a great start to his captaincy tenure. Rohit has led India on seven occasions in the limited-overs format since Kohli has relinquished his duties and the team has won all the matches thus far.
India had white-washed New Zealand 3-0 in the T20I series and then clean-swept West Indies by 3-0 in the ODI series under Rohit’s leadership. Furthermore, Rohit had scored two fifties against the Kiwis and scored one fifty against the Windies in the ODI series.
The talisman also scored a quickfire knock of 40 runs off just 19 balls in the first T20I against West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Wednesday and gave a quick start to his team in the run-chase.
“What to say? The entire world is seeing his batting. He is a class player. He played the way he has been playing for India all these years. He is not doing anything different,” Suryakumar told the press after the first T20I.
“When he is batting in the powerplay, when he feels he is in good touch, he is capitalizing on it. He is doing it wonderfully, leading from the front,” he added.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav was able to add the finishing touches as he scored 34 runs off just 18 balls. Yadav revealed that the idea was to bat till the end and get the team over the line.
“It was very important for me to stay till the end and finish off the game. I have been in this situation many a time. Every time, when I used to get out, leaving 20-25 runs behind, I used to feel bad. I think the situation was perfect. I just needed to raise my hand and bail the side out. Very happy to be on the winning side,” Suyakumar said.
Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer also played a key role in India’s win as he scored 24 off just 13 balls.
“The way he came into bat, that positivity rubbed off on me. He started his innings with a boundary, I felt it was the perfect platform for the both of us to stay there and finish off the game.”
The second T20I will be played on Friday.
