Former Indian medium pacer Venkatesh Prasad reckons India have been ordinary in ODI and T20I cricket for quite some time now. Prasad statements come after India’s five-wicket loss against the West Indies in the second ODI at Barbados on Thursday. The team could only manage 181 runs after they were put into bat and the batters could not deliver the goods.
Earlier in the year, India lost the ODI series against Australia by 2-1. Moreover, the team suffered ODI series losses against South Africa and Bangladesh. Furthermore, the team was knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2022 by eventual champions England in the semifinal.
While India has done a great job while playing in their own conditions in bilateral series, they haven’t been at their best in major tournaments.
“Test cricket aside, India has been very ordinary in the other two formats for quite some time now,” Prasad said on Twitter on Sunday.
“Lost ODI series against BAN, SA and AUS. Poor in the last two T20 World Cups,” he further added.
Prasad slammed the team’s approach and attitude and feels they haven’t being relentless despite having all the resources.
“Neither are we an exciting team like England nor brutal like how the Aussies used to be. Despite the money and power, we have become used to celebrating mediocrity and are far from how champion sides are. Every team plays to win and so does India but their approach and attitude is also a factor for underperformance over a period of time,” Prasad further added.
Earlier, Venkatesh Prasad had slammed KL Rahul for his ordinary performance in Test cricket. Rahul is currently out of the team as he is recovering from an injury.
Meanwhile, India’s batting hasn’t been at its best in the first two ODIs against the West Indies and the team also decided to rest Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, which eventually backfired.
The third ODI between India and West Indies will be played in Trinidad on Tuesday.
