India will lock horns against New Zealand in the first ODI at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara on Sunday. Team India has assembled in Baroda, barring four players – Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant. The quartet is playing for their respective teams in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy and will join the squad on January 9.
Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill will return to action after missing the ODI series against South Africa due to injuries. Iyer has proven his match fitness in the Vijay Hazare trophy and also scored a fine knock of 82 runs off 53 balls against Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, New Zealand has rested regular skipper Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell will lead in his place. The Kiwis have an inexperienced squad but the youngsters would look to grab their opportunities in Indian conditions.
