India will regroup with new energy for next WTC cycle: Virat Kohli

Indian captain Virat Kohli has opined that his team will regroup with the new energy for the next World Test Championship cycle. Kohli gave the statement after the ICC announced a new points system and revealed the fixtures for the second cycle of the WTC.

Meanwhile, Kohli will once again look to lead from the front in the second cycle of WTC. Kohli has always paid special importance to Test cricket and the same has been palpable in his actions and statements. Kohli has got the best out of his team in the Test format and he will look to deliver the goods for the team.

On the other hand, India did a fine job in the first cycle of the World Test Championship as they were able to win 12 matches out of the 17 they played and also topped the standings with a winning percentage of 72.2. However, India could not go all the way in the tournament as they were beaten by New Zealand by eight wickets in the final.

Virat Kohli said in the press conference, “It was great to have played the final of the ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand in what was a memorable contest. Not just the final, we saw the determination of players throughout the first edition of the championship.”

Kohli added that they will look to give their fans reasons to cheer in the second cycle of WTC after India lost in the final of the inaugural edition.

“The following of cricket lovers too was great to see, and I am sure they will all be eagerly waiting for the second edition. We will regroup with new energy for the next cycle starting with our series against England, hoping to give our fans a lot to cheer about.”

Meanwhile, England skipper Joe Root feels it will be a good opportunity for his team to test the Indian team in their own conditions. England were recently beaten by India by 3-1 in the latter’s conditions and Root & Co. will look to get their revenge.

Root said, “India are a fine all-round side and it would be good to test them in our home conditions. We narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final last time and are looking to do better this time. Test cricket is a format we all want to excel in and with points at stake for each match, everyone has to be at their best all the time.”
