IPL 2022: He has got a lot of nerve in the death overs – Kagiso Rabada on Arshdeep Singh

Punjab King’s gun fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has heaped praise on Arshdeep Singh for his death bowling as the youngster has impressed in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.

Singh has been right on the money in IPL 2022 and he has done a fabulous job for the Mohali-based franchise.

Singh scalped one wicket against Gujarat Titans at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Tuesday and conceded 36 runs in his quota of four overs. The left-arm pacer from Punjab has snared four wickets in 10 matches but most importantly he has conceded his runs at an impressive economy rate of 7.85.

Singh has hit the blockhole consistently at the fag end of the innings and it has been difficult for the opposition batters to score against him.

Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada was at his best against GT on Tuesday as he returned with impressive figures of 4-33 in his quota of four overs. Rabada was instrumental in keeping the opposition at 143-8 and thus he was awarded the Player of the Match.

Rabada said in the post-match presentation, “Finally we got the win. After being a bit inconsistent, we just wanted to string a couple of wins under our belt. We bowled well to restrict them. Our batters did the job. As a team, we had a good outing. You can’t get too greedy, you need to stick to your basics, that’s what I tried to do. (On Arshdeep) He’s got a lot of nerve, he has shown that, especially in the death overs. He reads the game well, he’s able to execute his skill and he’s done it game in game out. He knows what he wants to work on, I am not saying too much to him. As a bowler, you have to bowl in all stages of the game. It’s about figuring out how to be the most effective in each stage of the game.”

On the other hand, Liam Livingstone added the finishing touches as he scored a quickfire knock of 30 runs off just 10 balls. The England batter smashed 28 runs in the 16th over of the innings, which was bowled GT’s pack leader Mohammed Shami.

Livingstone said after the game, “Swinging hard enough. I didn’t think I was going to bat at one point, nice to go out and hit a few out the middle. I thought Shikhar played beautifully to set it up, and Bhanu with that partnership. It was a big win for us and we needed it, we have played some bad cricket in the last couple of games and it is nice to turn it around. I went up to Mayank and said I fancy going in before you and he said you go in if Bhanu gets out and I go in if Shikhar gets out. We know our roles and also if Mayank is there we have more stability. It is all about learning, it is hard to go in and play the way we wanted to as a new team. We played a bit smarter today and you have to play like that on such pitches.”

Punjab Kings will next face Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday.
