India’s rookie spinner Rahul Chahar is delighted that he will be playing under the tutelage of his idol, Anil Kumble in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League 2022 for Punjab Kings.
Chahar was roped in for INR 5.25 Crores by Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 mega auction and he would be looking to live up to the expectations.
The leg-spinner from Rajasthan is keen to learn from Anil Kumble and feels the upcoming two months will be vital for his career. Kumble has all the experience as a player as well as a coach and he would be looking to guide the youngster on the right path.
Chahar had played a key role in taking Mumbai Indians to their fifth IPL title in IPL 2020 as he had scalped 15 wickets in 15 matches for the Rohit Sharma-led team. Consequently, he would like to come up with similar performance for PBKS.
Overall, the 22-year old youngster has scalped 43 wickets in 42 IPL matches and he will look to do a good job for PBKS.
Rahul Chahar said in an interview with Sportskeeda, “I am extremely happy that Anil Sir is there this time; I will get to learn a lot from him. He has taken so many wickets in the Test format, and he has been my idol since childhood. I love playing the Test format as well, and I’m very keen to learn as much as I can from him now that I will spend more than two months alongside him during this IPL season. I am very happy that I have a chance to learn from someone as great as him.”
Rahul Chahar will be the lead spinner for Punjab Kings and he is aware that there will be responsibilities on his shoulder. Chahar wants to give his best in every match he plays for the Mohali-based franchise.
Chahar added, “I am very excited because this is a big role, there is a lot of responsibility that comes with it. I will need to take care of that and do justice to what is expected of me by the team, and I will look to give my 100% in every match.”
If Chahar can have a good IPL, it will definitely boost his chances of making the cut into the T20 World Cup squad. However, the leg-spinner is focused on doing well for PBKS and he isn’t thinking much about the future.
Chahar revealed, “Every IPL season is very important, there is no edition that is not. As a player, I personally don’t think too far. My job is to focus on the matches at hand, and I believe cricket is very unpredictable. I don’t look into the future. My focus is to do well for Punjab, and that is the only thing on my mind.”
Punjab Kings will begin their IPL campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai on 27th March.
