Rajasthan Royals’ young batter Riyan Parag believes he can be the best finisher not just for his franchise in the IPL but also for the national team.
Parag has done a decent job while batting in the lower middle order for the inaugural champions and he has shown the skills to go a long way in his career.
Parag can hit the long ball but he needs to be more consistent for Rajasthan Royals. Furthermore, along with his batting skills, Parag can bowl off-spin and he is a gun fielder in the outfield.
Thus, Parag is a handy all-rounder and he can deliver the goods for the team as he has the skills to do so. But Parag hasn’t produced the numbers he would have liked in the IPL so far. The 20-year-old has scored 364 runs in 34 matches at an average of 15.83 and a strike rate of 120.13.
“I don’t want to praise myself too much, but I think I can be the best finisher not just for Rajasthan Royals but for India in years to come. I have got the skill-set, I’ve got the all-rounder abilities and not just batting, fielding and bowling as well. Yes, I’ve got a lot to work on and I’ve got to be consistent. I’ve got to work a lot on a lot of areas but I firmly believe that I can do it for the Rajasthan Royals team and the country as well,” Parag said on ‘Red Bull’s Greatness Starts Here’.
Meanwhile, the youngster was also recently appointed as Assam’s captain and he also led the team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Parag added that it was a proud and humbling moment in his young career. The youngster feels he is calm under pressure and he wants to emulate MS Dhoni.
“It was very special. I captained the Mushtaq Ali team last year and this year as well. I always think of myself as a captain, even when I’m not captaining the side, and I always think about my game like that. So being the official captain of the state team was a very humbling and big moment. I don’t want to say like MS, but I try to copy MS a bit in that factor. But yeah, I’m the cool one. I’m not very aggressive,” Parag added.
Rajasthan Royals will take on Gujarat Titans at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Thursday.
