Former Australian captain Ian Chappell believes India can thank the highly successful IPL for being a dominant international side. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had launched the Indian Premier League back in 2008 and since then it has been a huge success.
As the IPL provides an opportunity to young talent to showcase their skills while playing with and against one of the best in the business, it has hugely helped India in developing the next generation of players.
Many young players have grabbed their opportunities with both hands in the IPL and they have grown in confidence. Subsequently, they have gone on to represent the national team at the top level.
Furthermore, India has improved its fast bowling battery massively and a lot of credit goes to the IPL. Bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah are a product of the lucrative league and recently gun fast bowler Umran Malik has turned heads around with his high speed.
“India’s pace-bowling revolution shows no sign of abating, and the name on IPL watchers’ lips is currently that of the pacy Umran Malik. In the past, India has displayed patience in developing its fast-bowling group, but the genuine pace of Malik will be hard to ignore,” Chappell wrote in his column for ‘ESPNcricinfo’.
“In a world where fast-bowling is a valuable commodity, India is now a shining light. The IPL indeed has played a huge role in transforming India from a side with the potential to a dominant force in world cricket.”
Meanwhile, earlier India was not known for its fast bowlers but things have changed in the last decade. India has dominated Test cricket in the last six years and a lot of credit goes to their impressive fast bowling unit, which has produced goods in all types of conditions.
India has ticked the right boxes in all the three formats of the game in the last decade and there is no doubt they are a force to reckon with in any kind of conditions.
