IPL 2022: It is time for him to convert his starts – Ravi Shastri on Rohit Sharma

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has urged Rohit Sharma to start converting his starts into substantial scores.

Sharma has been getting off to good starts in the ongoing season of the IPL 2022 but has failed to get a big score for his team. As Ishan Kishan has also struggled to get going, MI hasn’t got a good start in the ongoing season.

Rohit has scored 198 runs in 10 matches at an average of 19.8 and a strike rate of 128.57. Thus, the flamboyant batter hasn’t been able to lead from the front in IPL 2022.

In fact, Rohit hasn’t been able to cross the 50-run mark on a single occasion even though he has got off to a couple of good starts. Rohit had scored 43 runs off just 28 balls in the previous match against Gujarat Titans but once again could not get a huge score for his team.

Ravi Shastri told ESPN Cricinfo, “Absolutely. What I liked about Rohit in the last game was that his attitude and intent were brilliant from the start. It feels like he’s making 30s, 35s, and 40s, now it’s time to convert [the starts].”

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are already knocked out of the tournament as they have managed only two wins in 10 matches. Shastri added that Mumbai has nothing to play for in the tournament except for their pride. MI will look to end their season on a high by winning their last four league stage matches.

“Mumbai Indians don’t have anything to play for in this tournament except pride. When a team has won the title five teams, they know that one or two such seasons can also come where nothing has worked for them. Rohit Sharma wasn’t in good form, the top-order didn’t score as many runs as it should have. They’ll want to finish with a bang. [They should think] “We didn’t win or qualify but let’s play the last three to four games with heart and positivity, and win comfortably.”

Mumbai Indians have failed to come up with a collective effort and it led to their downfall. They have been at their best with neither bat nor the ball and they will look to just enjoy their last four matches without any pressure.

Mumbai will face KKR at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday.
