Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar feels it was a confidence-building innings for Virat Kohli while playing against Gujarat Titans on Saturday at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
It has been a tough season for Virat Kohli as he has failed to deliver the goods for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
However, Kohli scored a good knock of 58 runs off 53 balls and looked comfortable at the crease. The talisman must have grown in confidence after such a knock and he will look to continue the good show for RCB for the rest of the season.
But Kohli’s knock went in vain as Gujarat Titans won by five wickets after Rahul Tewatia and David Miller added 79 runs to get their team over the line.
Meanwhile, Kohli would have liked to score his runs at a better strike rate as he failed to change gears in the middle of innings. However, runs from Kohli’s bat is a huge positive for Royal Challengers Bangalore and the franchise will want their former skipper to continue in a similar fashion.
“It was a knock that he needed; it was a knock that RCB wanted as well. Once you get going and get a fifty, it augurs well for the remaining matches as well. Your main man is hitting the ball cleanly, the feet are moving into position quite nicely. It’s a confidence-building innings. Definitely, as far as the RCB is concerned, they will be very, very happy,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
On the other hand, RCB captain Faf du Plessis also heaped praise on Virat Kohli for playing a decent knock for the team.
He said after the game, “It was a huge step in the right direction to get a solid 50. You want one of your top-four to get the 70s in the future, so it’s good.”
Kohli will look to turn the tables in the last four matches of the league stage for RCB and the team’s journey will definitely depend on his form.
Kohli has all the experience under his belt and he will look to make the most of it to get the best out of himself. RCB will next face Chennai Super Kings at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Wednesday.
