Mumbai Indians talisman batter Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out for the rest of the Indian Premier League 2022 due to a left forearm muscle injury.
This is a big blow for MI as SKY was in red hot form for the franchise and was one of the few positives in otherwise what has been a hugely disappointing season for them.
The franchise hasn’t yet named any replacement for the Mumbai batter. Yadav amassed 303 runs from eight matches at an average of 43.29 and he is the team’s second-highest run-getter of the season after youngster Tilak Varma.
In fact, Yadav had missed the first two matches for the team as he was recovering from another hand injury at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Yadav scored three fifties for Mumbai Indians but unfortunately, two of them went in vain.
“Suryakumar Yadav has sustained a muscle strain on the left forearm and has been ruled out for the season. He has been advised to rest, in consultation with the BCCI medical team,” the franchise said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians got off to a horrid start as they lost their first eight matches of the season. Furthermore, they suffered another big loss of 52 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday. The Rohit Sharma-led team has managed only two wins in their 11 matches and is already knocked out of the playoff race.
MI has failed to come up with a collective effort and often Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma did the bulk of the scoring for the team in the middle order. Thus, the five-time champions will look to bounce back stronger in the next season.
Mumbai will next face Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday.
