Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Avesh Khan has revealed that his plan is to always bowl dot balls and try to hit the yorker length.
Khan scalped four wickets and conceded only 24 runs in his quota of four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday.
Avesh Khan, who was bought for a whopping amount of INR 10 crores by LSG, has thus far justified his huge price tag. The right-arm fast bowler from Madhya Pradesh bowled a match-changing over as he dismissed a well-settled Nicholas Pooran for 34 runs and then sent back Abdul Samad for a golden duck in the 18th over of the innings.
Earlier in the innings, Khan had got the big wicket of Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson and had also accounted for Abhishek Sharma. Thus, he was awarded the Player of the Match as he played a key role in his team’s 12 run win over the Orange Army.
Avesh Khan said in the post-match presentation, “The plan always is how I can pick up wickets in the power play and slog overs. I wanted to bowl the slower ball (Williamson dismissal) because we felt that the ball was gripping and holding on the surface. The plan is to always bowl dots and try to hit the yorker length. I always get a lot of support from the captain and support staff, and want bowl with the same rhythm.”
On the other hand, Krunal Pandya also played a key role in his team’s win. The left-arm orthodox spinner scalped two wickets and conceded 27 runs in his allotted four overs. Pandya accounted for Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram in his fine spell.
Pandya said after the game, “Feels great when you win and when you’re contributing. I’m loving it (the new franchise), I had a great run with the Mumbai Indians, and had some great memories there. I feel like this is the first season of my IPL, that’s the excitement I have before every game or going to every practice session.
Not at all (missing Hardik?). The brand of cricket we are playing is heartening to see, the self-belief is exceptional. Focus is always on how we can get better as a team, if we are on that path, we will have some good results going forward as well. I worked on my action to get some bounce and turn and just want to continue doing that.”
Lucknow Super Giants have managed two wins from their first three matches and they have got off to a promising start in the IPL. Thus, the KL Rahul-led team will look to continue their good show in the tournament.
LSG will next take on Delhi Capitals on Thursday at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
