Throughout the Tata IPL 2022, Punjab Kings failed to win two matches in a row. The Mohali-based franchise wasn’t at their best and it led to their downfall.
PBKS failed to come up with a collective effort and once again could not qualify for the playoff stages. In fact, the team last qualified for the last four back in 2014 when they made it to the final of the tournament.
PBKS were hot and cold throughout the season and they will now look to bounce back stronger in the next season. The Mayank Agarwal-led team played 13 matches out of which they have won six games and are out of the playoffs race. The Men in Red will play their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday and will look to end the season on a high.
The team’s head coach Anil Kumble admitted that his team wasn’t consistent enough in IPL 2022.
Kumble said on PBKS social media handle: “Every new team requires time to get used to players and their respective roles. So, it takes time. I think we lost key moments. The team wasn’t consistent and that’s something that we certainly need to find a way to bring better consistency in the coming seasons. There are a lot of positives, but at the same time, disappointed that we couldn’t make it.”
Former Indian leg-spinner added that PBKS will go all guns blazing against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last league stage match.
“We are definitely going to go all guns blazing against SRH. It’s a must-win game for us and we’ll certainly do that and look to get those two points in the last game.”
PBKS batters adopted the approach of ‘see the ball and hit the ball’, throughout the season and the strategy worked on a few occasions but they could not be consistent with it.
Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh was a big positive for Punjab-based franchise as he was brilliant in the death overs. Furthermore, Liam Livingstone was the star of the show with the bat for Punjab. PBKS will look to come back stronger in the next season.
