Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Parthiv Patel feels there is a big question mark on the way Kieron Pollard is approaching the game.
Pollard has failed to achieve any kind of momentum in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League and has looked at sea.
The West Indian, who recently announced his international retirement, has not been able to deliver the goods for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing season. Pollard has scored 144 runs in 11 matches at a poor average of 14.4 and a strike rate of 107.46 in IPL 2022.
The veteran has been a huge servant for Mumbai Indians in the previous seasons but he has failed to get going in the ongoing edition. Mumbai has managed only two wins in 11 matches they have played and they are already knocked out of the tournament.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Patel said, “There is a big question mark on Kieron Pollard’s form and the way he is approaching the game. That could be the only point of concern for MI and apart from that, I don’t think they’d look to make any changes.”
Pollard was retained by Mumbai Indians before IPL 2022 mega auction but he has not been able to justify his selection.
On the other hand, former Indian batter Ajay Jadeja reckons Chennai Super Kings could give captaincy bridle to Ruturaj Gaikwad if CSK is knocked out of the tournament. Earlier in the season, Jadeja was appointed as CSK’s captain but the move didn’t pay dividends.
“CSK had appointed Ravindra Jadeja as the captain and were seeing their future in him. The only other option I see right now is Ruturaj Gaikwad. They might look to give him the captaincy once they are officially out of the playoffs race. They can see how he fares in that role. They will know that when the change of leadership doesn’t work out, their whole season goes bad. So, instead of repeating the same mistake, they can try making that change during their remaining matches.”
Meanwhile, both Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are languishing at the bottom of the points table. The two heavyweights of the tournament will face each other at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday.
