IPL 2022: We were not good enough and the table is not lying: Jasprit Bumrah

Mumbai Indians gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has admitted that they have not been good enough after they have lost all of their first six matches of the season.

Mumbai Indians are currently at the bottom of the points table with zero wins and Bumrah feels the table is not lying.

Mumbai Indians have failed to come up with a collective effort, which has led to the downfall of the team. The top order is not delivering the goods as Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma have failed to get going. Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis have impressed with the bat whereas Suryakumar Yadav has been a consistent performer but still MI has failed to cross the line.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has delivered with the ball as he has picked four wickets in six matches and has conceded his runs at an impressive economy rate of 7.56. However, he hasn’t received the support of the other bowlers.

Mumbai suffered their sixth loss of the season as they were beaten by Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs on Saturday. This is the first time when MI has lost their first six matches and they became the third IPL team after Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2013 and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019 to claim the unwanted record.

“Sir, life has not ended, the sun is going to rise again tomorrow. This is a game of cricket right, somebody has to win, somebody has to lose. We’ve not lost everything in life, somebody has to win, somebody has to lose. We just lost a cricket game. So, that’s the spirit that is there in our cricket team, nobody is as disappointed as we are. Nobody from the outside can see the hard work that we have put in and the fight,” Bumrah said after the defeat to LSG.

With only eight matches remaining in the league stage for Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions are going to have their work cut out in order to qualify for the playoff stages. Bumrah however is not losing hope and feels the team will need a bit of luck to make it to the last four in this situation.

“With a lot of games and a little luck here and there, but yeah, it is the way it is. I’m not shying away from that. We were not good enough and the table is not lying. In the rest of the games, we will again give our best shot and try to come out on the better side,” he added.

Mumbai Indians will face Chennai Super Kings at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy on Thursday.
