Injured Rahul Dravid Joins Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2025 Pre-Season Camp

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) can breathe a sigh of relief as head coach Rahul Dravid has joined the team’s pre-season camp in Jaipur despite nursing a leg injury. The franchise confirmed his arrival on social media, posting a picture of the former India cricketer with a cast on his left leg.

Dravid, currently recovering from a calf muscle injury, sustained the setback during a club match in Bengaluru while playing alongside his son, Anvay, in the KSCA Division III league. The incident occurred during the semifinal clash between Vijaya Cricket Club (Malur) and Jayanagar Cricketers.

Dravid’s return to the cricket field had surprised many, as the 52-year-old teamed up with his son when their team was struggling at 12/3. However, just two balls into his innings, he appeared to be in discomfort due to leg trouble but continued batting. Displaying his characteristic grit, he built a 43-run partnership with Anvay off 66 balls.

Unfortunately, in the 18th over, while attempting a run, Dravid pulled up in pain after a few steps, having reportedly strained his calf muscle. His teammates had to assist him off the field, bringing an end to his determined knock of 29 runs. Despite his valiant effort, Vijaya Cricket Club fell short in the match.

Despite his injury, Dravid has wasted no time in getting back to his coaching responsibilities. The Royals, who are gearing up for IPL 2025, will benefit from his presence as they prepare for the high-intensity tournament.

“Head Coach Rahul Dravid, who picked up an injury while playing cricket in Bangalore, is recovering well and will join us today in Jaipur,” Rajasthan Royals posted on X (formerly Twitter).

While it remains to be seen how actively Dravid can participate in on-field activities, his experience and leadership will be crucial for RR as they aim for a strong IPL campaign. His return to the Royals comes after his tenure as India’s head coach, where he led the national team to the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

With IPL 2025 fast approaching, Dravid’s presence, even in a limited capacity, will be a morale booster for the Rajasthan Royals squad.
