Although it has been a nightmare of an IPL season for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have been rooted to the bottom of the table for a long while now, they have pulled out a few tricks up their sleeves. Last night, they played party-poopers to Royal Challengers Bangalore who have already qualified for the Playoffs. RCB had the chance to overtake CSK in the points table and get a favourable knockout draw, but SRH had other ideas.
However, the Kane Williamson-led side relied on their captain yesterday who added a meaningful 70-run stand with Jason Roy. Williamson scored 31 runs and kept the scoreboard constantly ticking in the middle overs of the game. His stroke-play was beautiful to watch and Williamson also contributed on the field with a couple of catches and also got the dangerous Glenn Maxwell run out.
After being awarded the Player of the Match, Williamson said, “It’s been a really tough season but it was great to see these small improvements today. The conditions are challenging and sometimes when you want things to go your way, it can be quite conflicting. So, to see the small adjustments to get a good total on the board was good to see. We had some fight and the heart in the second half, which was great to see.”
The Sunrisers Hyderabad and New Zealand skipper also discussed his batting on the night. Describing the wicket as sticky, Williamson said that it was tough to bat on. Although it might have been a few runs short of the 150 par score, Kane praised his side’s efforts in getting a defendable total which assisted their bowling unit’s work.
“It was about trying to maximize the powerplay on this pitch. Usually when you’re in a rhythm you try and progress from there but the ball held in the surface and you had to take a couple of steps back to go forward again.
Fortunately, we were able to do that for a period of time. We got to a challenging total. ‘We knew things wouldn’t happen quickly with the ball today, so to hang tight and build some pressure to get some reward for it was nice,” concluded Williamson.
