Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Gurkeerat Mann Singh as replacement for Rinku Singh before the upcoming Indian Premier League 2021. Rinku Singh will not be able to take part in IPL 2021 due to a knee injury. The left-hander had made his debut back in IPL 2017 for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and had played a total of 10 matches.
The southpaw has scored 77 runs in the tournament at a strike rate of 101.32. The player, from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh could only play a solitary match for Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous season in which he scored only 11 runs.
On the other hand, Gurkeerat Mann Singh had a poor season for Royal Challengers Bangalore and thus he was released. Singh could manage 71 runs in eight innings at a below-par strike rate of 88.75.
KKR has signed Gurkeerat Mann Singh for his base price of INR 50 lakhs. This will be the eighth season for Punjab player in the IPL as he had made his debut back in the 2012 season.
In 41 IPL games thus far, Gurkeerat Singh Mann has scored 511 runs at a strike rate of 121.09 and an average of 21.29. The right-hander’s best performance came back in IPL 2019 when he scored 65 runs off just 48 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Gurkeerat Mann Singh made his ODI debut for India back in 2016 against Australia. However, the right-hander couldn’t grab his opportunity as he managed only 13 runs in three matches he played in the series.
Singh had earlier revealed that he was a bit surprised when no team bid for him in IPL 2021 auction. Thus, Singh will now like to grab his opportunity with both hands in the upcoming season.
Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 11th April.
