Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman Saba Karim feels Rohit Sharma will need to perform better with the bat in the second phase of the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians.
Rohit scored 250 runs in seven matches at an average of 35.71 and a strike rate of 128.21 in the first leg of the IPL.
There is no doubt that Rohit is Mumbai’s best batsman and he will need to be at the top of his game for the franchise. The talisman has been in sublime form in the recent past and he had scored 368 runs in four Test matches against England at an impressive average of 52.57. Thus, Rohit will look to continue the good form in the IPL and deliver the goods for the team.
Rohit is well known for his white-ball game and he is one of the best limited-overs batsmen in the world. The Mumbai Indians captain will look to lead from the front.
“There’s a need for improvement in his batting. He’s the captain and the Mumbai Indians are winning trophies under him, that’s a different thing. They have a lot of match-winners so his performances don’t get much attention, Saba Karim said during an interview on YouTube channel Khelneeti.
“His most important role in the team is as a batsman… This is a peculiar case. Every time he goes to the IPL he’s in brilliant form in international cricket but fails to convert it during the tournament,” added Karim.
Rohit Sharma will aim to be at his best in the upcoming IPL 2021 and he will look to deliver the goods. Mumbai also has quality batsmen like Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, and Hardik Pandya in their squad, who have all the skills to turn the match on its head.
Mumbai Indians will resume their IPL campaign against Chennai Super Kings on 19th September at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
