Mumbai Indians talisman batsman Suryakumar Yadav believes playing rubber ball cricket helped him develop his flick shot.
Yadav played an unbelievable flick shot against Pat Cummins that carried a whopping 99 meters at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Tuesday.
The right-hander made great use of his wrists and flicked the ball in style. The timing on the ball was exquisite from Yadav as it went on the roof of the stadium.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai batsman was able to hit the ground running as he took 14 runs from Harbhajan Singh’s first over. In fact, Yadav was the solitary Mumbai Indians’ batter who was able to time the ball to perfection. MI skipper Rohit Sharma also scored 43 but he took 32 balls to score his runs.
Yadav has grown in confidence in the recent past and he was once again at his best for MI. The flamboyant batsman scored 56 runs off 36 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes as he scored his runs at an impressive strike rate of 155.56, which was the best for any batsman in the match who faced more than 10 balls.
When pacer Trent Boult asked how he started playing that shot, Suryakumar said in a video posted by the IPL’s official website, “During my younger days, I used to play a lot of rubber-ball cricket on cemented track and on one side boundary used to be about 90-95 meters so think that shot has come from there. I’m really enjoying the way how I’m going right now and hopefully, continue the same for the team.
“I try to keep things really simple. I don’t complicate things. I know what I have been doing in that position in the last two three years. I just go out there and express myself,” he added.
Suryakumar Yadav has been in sublime form in the recent past and he will look to continue the good show. Yadav is going to hold the key for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing season and he will aim to continue batting in an aggressive manner.
Yadav played a key role in taking his team to a fighting score of 152 runs and MI was able to defend it by 10 runs after a fine bowling performance. MI will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the same venue of Chepauk Stadium, Chennai on 17th April.
