Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has become the first Indian player to complete 10,000 T20 runs. Kohli achieved the milestone in RCB’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The talisman smashed a six against MI’s gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah to complete the glorious landmark.
Kohli scored a fine knock of 51 runs off 42 balls to help his team get to a score of 165 runs against the defending champions. On the other hand, Virat Kohli made his T20 debut back in 2007 for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh. After leading his team to glory in the Under-19 World Cup, Kohl was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2008.
Subsequently, Kohli made his debut for the national team in the shortest format against Zimbabwe in 2010. The right-hander has amassed 3159 runs in 90 T20Is for the Indian team, which makes him the highest run-getter in T20Is.
The linchpin has gathered more than 6100 runs for RCB in the IPL and he is also the leading run-scorer in the lucrative IPL. Kohli has also scored five centuries in the IPL, four of which came in the 2016 season when he scored 973 runs for the franchise.
Meanwhile, Kohli became the fifth overall player to cross the 10,000 run-mark in the shortest format of the game. Chris Gayle was the first-ever batter to get to the landmark while Shoaib Malik, David Warner, and Kieron Pollard had followed suit after the West Indian.
Kohli also recently has decided to step down as the captain of the Indian team after the completion of the T20 World Cup. Soon after he decided to relinquish his duties as RCB captain after the ongoing season.
RCB is currently placed at third place in the points table with five wins from nine matches.
