The 15th edition of the Tata Indian Premier League 2022 came to a close with newcomers Gujarat Titans lifting the coveted trophy after beating Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday by seven wickets in front of more than 1,00,000 people.
It was a humdinger season as the 10 teams fought hard but Gujarat Titans were the most consistent side and deserving winners. There were some thrilling matches as the games went down to the wire to keep the fans on the edge of their seats.
Furthermore, there were consistent performances throughout the season as the players gave a lot of joy to their supporters. From Jos Buttler’s prolific form with the bat to Yuzvendra Chahal becoming the first spinner to clinch the Purple cap – the IPL didn’t fail to once again amaze us all with its razzmatazz.
As there were consistent performances throughout the edition, a lot of awards were given after GT came out as winners in their maiden season.
Jos Buttler: Winner of Orange Cap, IPL 2022 Most Valuable Player, Most boundaries and sixes
RR opener Jos Buttler went on to score 863 runs in 17 matches of the tournament at an average of 57.53 and a blistering strike rate of 149.05. The talisman scored 83 fours and 45 sixes. Thus, he was awarded the MVP of the tournament.
Evin Lewis: IPL 2022 Catch of the season
LSG’s Evin Lewis took a one-handed blinder to dismiss Rinku Singh against Kolkata Knight Riders. Three runs were needed off the last two balls when Lewis turned the match on its head with his spectacular catch.
Yuzvendra Chahal: Purple cap award
RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was at his best as he snared 27 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 19.51 and an economy rate of 7.75. Ergo, he played an instrumental role in taking RR to the final of the tournament.
Lockie Ferguson: Fast delivery of the season
GT gun fast bowler Lockie Ferguson clocked 157.3 kmph in the final against RR, beating Umran Malik’s record of 157 kmph.
Fairplay award: Gujarat Titans & Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals topped the list of fair play awards with 170 points (17 matches), while Gujarat Titans finished second with 160 points (16 matches).
Dinesh Karthik: Super striker of the season
Dinesh Karthik was at his best for RCB as he scored 330 runs in 16 matches at an average of 55 and a whirlwind strike rate of 183.33.
Emerging player: Umran Malik
SunRisers Hyderabad speedster Umran Malik was awarded the Emerging player of the season award. Malik scalped 22 wickets in 14 matches and consistently bowled above 145 kmph.
