Mahendra Singh Dhoni shocked the world once again after deciding to step down as the captain of Chennai Super Kings ahead of IPL 2022. The leadership of the group has been handed over to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja instead.
Despite dropping bombshell through their social media announcement, CSK didn’t reveal any other details. However, they mentioned that Dhoni will be representing the franchise ‘forever and beyond’. Naturally, questions on Dhoni’s future ensued and the CEO of Chennai Super Kings Kasi Vishwanathan came forward to clarify.
“No, I don’t think (this is going to be his last season). He will carry on,” Viswanathan told The Indian Express. “We have always respected the decision of MS. He has been a pillar of strength for us. He will continue to be a pillar of strength and he will guide Jaddu (Jadeja) and the other members of the team.
“He is expecting a smooth transition from him to Jaddu and that’s why he has taken the decision. As a captain and player, who has always cared for CSK, he must have taken the decision in the best interest of CSK,” he added.
While the CEO of Chennai Super Kings has mentioned that Dhoni is likely to continue, their new captain Ravindra Jadeja has added that he will continue to seek guidance from Dhoni and that the legendary gloveman will always be his go-to person.
In a video posted by the four-time IPL champions on social media, Ravindra Jadeja said, “Feeling good. At the same time, I also need to fill in those big boots. Mahi Bhai has already set a big legacy so I need to carry that forward
“I don’t need to worry too much because he is here. So. If I have any questions, I will definitely approach him. He will be my go-to person. He was and still, is today. So yeah, I am not worried too much. Thank you for all your love and wishes. Keep supporting us, thank you”, he added.
Chennai Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of IPL 2022 March 26. The two sides also sparred in the final of IPL 2021 where CSK got the better of KKR to lift their fourth title.
