Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra reckons Aaron Finch will be dropped from Kolkata Knight Riders’ next match in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. Finch hasn’t been in the best of forms and he has scored only one fifty so far in the 15th edition of the tournament.
The Australian limited-overs captain was dismissed after scoring only four runs off seven balls by Kuldeep Sen while playing against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday. Finch has managed only 72 runs in four matches of the ongoing season at an average of 18 and he can be shown the exit doors from the playing XI in the next game.
The right-hander has failed to provide a good start to his team and he looked at sea while playing against Trent Boult and Kuldeep Sen.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “When it came to the run chase, you look towards Aaron Finch and say that such a big player and such a huge problem, that incoming deliveries trouble him so much. He looked so uncomfortable, it was not funny anymore. I feel he won’t be playing the next match, you have also dropped Venkatesh Iyer. He did score runs in one match but he looks very out of form.”
On the other hand, former KKR player added that Shreyas Iyer played well despite the fact he played at almost a run-a-ball. Iyer scored 34 runs from 32 balls and thus provided the crucial runs in the middle overs.
He added, “Baba Indrajith was dismissed by a bouncer, a fielder was there in the deep. But after that, Shreyas Iyer played well. It was a slow knock but a good one. They are important runs because this batting does not have the depth. It was a slightly unfortunate dismissal down the leg side.”
Furthermore, the renowned commentator heaped praise on Nitish Rana, who scored an unbeaten knock of 48 runs off 37 balls and added a crucial partnership of 66 runs with Rinku Singh to help his team get two crucial points.
“After that, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh played well. Nitish Rana – praiseworthy because two consecutive good knocks. He played well in the last match also, it didn’t result in a win but here it came in a winning cause. He remained unbeaten till the end, we saw a more mature knock.”
KKR will next face Lucknow Super Giants at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Saturday.
