Sunrisers Hyderabad has suffered a huge blow as their talisman all-rounder Washington Sundar is likely to be ruled out for the next two matches due to split webbing in his bowling hand, PTI reported on Tuesday. Sundar suffered the injury during his team’s fourth match of the season against Gujarat Titans at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday.
The off-spinner bowled three overs, out of which two were bowled in the powerplay, and conceded 14 runs without taking any wickets. Sundar has been a key player for the Orange Army as he is doing a fine job with the ball and he can also deliver the goods with the bat while batting down the order.
Sundar has an impressive economy rate of 7.03 in the IPL and SRH is definitely going to miss his services in the next couple of matches. Jagadeesha Suchith might get his chances in place of Washington Sundar if the latter fails to recover for the next couple of matches.
“Washington has torn the webbing in his right hand, between his thumb and first finger. We must monitor that over the next two-three days. Hopefully, it isn’t a significant blow. I’d imagine it’d take probably a week or so to settle down,” SRH coach Tom Moody said after the win.
On the other hand, Rahul Tripathi also had to retire hurt after he pulled his hamstring while playing a lofted shot over the covers. The right-hander was looking good as he had scored 17 runs from 11 balls.
Kane Williamson is hopeful that both of these players should be able to get back to full fitness before their next match.
Williamson had said after the game, “Might just be cramps for Rahul and hopefully he can recover quickly. Washington as well. Hopefully, he can recover quickly as well.”
Meanwhile, SRH won their second match of the season as they defeated Gujarat Titans by eight wickets after Williamson and Pooran played vital knocks. SRH will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Friday.
