IPL 2022: Looking forward to working with Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur – Shane Watson

Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson is looking forward to working with the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur. Watson stated that Shaw is immensely talented and he will look to guide the youngster on the right path. The former Australian all-rounder had also played with Shardul Thakur in Chennai Super Kings and had observed him from close quarters.

Prithvi Shaw is well known to hit the ground running as an opener in the IPL. The 22-year old youngster has scored 1305 runs in 53 IPL matches at an average of 24.62 and a blistering strike rate of 146.3. Shaw is a sweet timer of the ball and he would aim to be at his best in the upcoming season.

Watson is also looking forward to working with Rishabh Pant, who will lead Delhi Capitals in the forthcoming season.

“Looking forward to getting to know Pant, finding out what exactly makes him tick and finding out how I can help him in any way possible,” Watson said in a media interaction.

“Prithvi Shaw is someone I find very fascinating. The talent this young guy has is spectacular. He has incredible skill.”

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals were able to rope in Shardul Thakur in IPL 2022 mega auction for a huge amount of INR 10.75 crores. Thakur can deliver the goods with both bat and ball and he has taken giant strides in the recent past.

“Another guy I’m looking forward to working with is Shardul Thakur,” he said. “I worked with him (Thakur) in CSK. He’s an extremely skillful cricketer and is continuing to get better. We are seeing his skill with the ball and quite a few glimpses with the bat as well. He is a genuine all-rounder in all formats, especially T20.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have been a consistent unit in the last two seasons as they had qualified for the playoff stages. Watson reckons the franchise has a squad to go all the way in the competition if they play to their potential.

“The one thing that stands out for me is the squad. It is certainly one of the strongest with overseas and Indian players,” he said.

“DC has been close to winning the title and I feel they have what it takes to cross the line. There are not too many holes in the squad let alone team.”

Delhi Capitals will begin their season against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on 27th March.
