The Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that IPL 2022 will begin in the last week of March.
It has been reported that the 15th edition of the lucrative league could commence from March 27. Shah also confirmed that the tournament will run till May 2022.
Furthermore, the BCCI secretary added that the Indian board will leave no stone unturned to host the tourney in India. The 2020 season of the IPL was hosted in the UAE after the Covid-19 outbreak.
The first half of IPL 2021 was hosted in India but the second phase had to be hosted in the UAE after Covid-19 cases had broken into the league during the second wave of the pandemic.
“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end. A majority of the team owners expressed their wish that the tournament be held in India. The BCCI was always keen on staging the 2022 edition that will see two new teams – Ahmedabad and Lucknow – in India. I can tell you that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah told ANI.
Meanwhile, the IPL 2022 mega auction will take place on February 12 and 13 but the venue is yet to be decided. Earlier it was reported that Bengaluru will host the auction. 10 IPL teams will take part in the auction as 270 capped, 903 uncapped, and 41 Associate players will go under the hammer.
“BCCI has not compromised on the health & safety of its stakeholders in the past & will concurrently work on Plan B since Covid-9 situation with new variants remains fluid. Mega IPL Auction will take place on Feb 12-13th & we’ll lock in venues before that,” he added.
On the other hand, the Indian international players will not have much time to gear up for the IPL as the team will play their last match against Sri Lanka on March 18.
