Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant reckons they played almost a perfect game against Rajasthan Royals at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Wednesday after comprehensively winning by eight wickets to bag two crucial points. It was a must-win game for Delhi Capitals and they were able to bring their A-game to the ground.
Delhi came up with a solid performance in all the three departments of the game as they dominated Rajasthan Royals. DC bowlers were able to restrict RR to a sub-par score of 160-6 after Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first.
DC was right on the money in the death overs as they conceded 53 runs in the last six overs and took four wickets to keep RR below a par score.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals got off to a poor start with the bat as KS Bharat was dismissed on the second ball. However, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner batted at their best after a precarious start. The Australian duo added 144 runs for the second wicket and batted at the top of their game.
Marsh scored a match-winning knock of 89 runs whereas Warner added an unbeaten knock of 52 runs. Thus, DC ticked the right boxes to win convincingly by eight wickets and 11 balls to spare to give a boost to their NRR.
Rishabh Pant, who finished the game with a couple of sixes in the end, said in the post-match presentation, “Very close to a perfect game. Always believe there’s room for improvement. When you know the wicket is going to turn, a little bit not much, there’s an opportunity to both bowl first or bat first. In the toss, I said anything around 140-160 would be good for us, and we got 160. Destiny is always on your hands, you can look to give 100 percent. Fielding wise we can be better. He got typhoid or something like that (talking about Shaw), doctor told me that.”
Delhi Capitals will look to continue the good show in order to make it to the playoff stages. DC will next face Punjab Kings at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday.
