Former Australian gun pacer Brett Lee wants Sunrisers Hyderabad to take a tough call with Harry Brook and suggested they should drop him. Brook, barring his century against KKR earlier in the season, hasn’t been able to deliver the goods for the Orange Army.
The England batter has scored 163 runs in nine matches at an average of 20.38 and a strike rate of 121.64. In fact, Brook was one of the most expensive buys in the IPL 2023 auction as he was roped in for a whopping amount of INR 13.25 crores by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
However, Brook hasn’t been able to live up to the lofty expectations so far and Lee feels he is not in the right mindset. Brook has managed only one score of two digits in the last five innings after scoring that brilliant century against KKR.
Meanwhile, Brook was plumbed in front by Anukul Roy against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday for a duck when his team was chasing 172 runs. In the end, the home team went on to lose by five runs.
Brett Lee said on Jio Cinema, “He is obviously a class player. He has got Test hundreds. He has got a hundred here as well. But I feel, SRH are losing a spot. May be they bring someone else instead of Harry Brook for a couple of games. Nothing against Harry Brook, he is a gun. But he is not in the right mindset.”
On the other hand, former Indian batter Robin Uthappa feels Sunrisers Hyderabad can give a chance to Glenn Phillips, who can bat in the middle order in place of Harry Brook.
“Probably, someone else at No. 6 instead of Harry Brook. He is having a pretty lean run. They have Glenn Phillips who can bat in the middle-order. If it’s not working, it’s not working, you have got to enough opportunities and if it’s not coming off, it’s not.”
However, Uthappa went on to put his weight behind Brook and feels the 24-year-old youngster will deliver in India as he will gain more experience.
“He has been on a lean patch after that hundred. He will get better at playing in India as time goes on. He will figure out a solution. He is too good a batter not to find out a solution.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on Rajasthan Royals on Sunday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
