England veteran batter Joe Root sees a lot of hunger, desire, and ability in talented Yashasvi Jaiswal. Root has observed the youngster from close quarters in the ongoing IPL 2023 while playing for Rajasthan Royals. Jaiswal has been in superb form in the ongoing season as he has scored 575 runs in 13 matches at an average of 47.92 and a whirlwind strike rate of 166.18.
The youngster has provided solid starts to RR in the ongoing season along with Jos Buttler and has played a key role in the team’s success in the 16th season of the tournament.
Jaiswal was performing consistently in the domestic circuit and he was able to carry the good form in the IPL. The southpaw also scored a majestic knock of 124 runs against Mumbai Indians earlier in the season. Furthermore, the left-hander smashed 98 runs from 47 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders and thus he has been batting at his absolute best.
Jaiswal has definitely grown in confidence and he is learning a lot by opening the innings with Jos Buttler.
“You could see it (India debut) tomorrow,” Root said in an interview with PTI. “One thing that is quite impressive with him is he is clearly very hungry and he has got great desire and belief in his ability.
“He is making sure that he continues to keep looking to get better, keep learning which he does, he has got a great temperament in that respect and he has got a brilliant work ethic. He is always asking and trying to learn from other players and from people around him.”
Root, who has all the experience under his belt, feels Jaiswal has no weakness against pace and spin as he can be lethal against both types of bowlers.
“So I think he has got all the elements, there is no area of real weakness at this minute which you can see,” he added.
“He has dominated spin and seam throughout this tournament and you can see him with the confidence he is playing with now is amazing.”
“I do not think it is a question of ‘if he can do it’; it is more (of) ‘when’ and how he fits into that Indian team,” Root continued.
“But clearly he is a hell of a talent with an amazing future ahead of him and hopefully he continues to go as it is, all falls into place and the only team he does not score runs against is England.”
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Punjab Kings in their last league stage match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Friday.
