Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill was delighted after scoring his maiden IPL century against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Monday. Gill scored a blistering knock of 101 runs off just 58 balls against the Orange Army as he batted at the top of his game.
The youngster scored 13 fours and one six in his fine knock and added 147 runs with Sai Sudharsan, who contributed 47 runs. Ergo, Gill’s century, which was the first for GT in their IPL history, helped the team in posting a par score of 188 runs on the board after Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Gill has been in prolific form in 2023 and everything he touches turns to gold. The 23-year-old is currently the second-highest run-getter in the ongoing IPL 2023 as he has scored 576 runs in 13 matches at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 146.19.
The right-hander was awarded Player of the Match for his prolific knock against SRH. In fact, Gill had made his IPL debut against SRH back in IPL 2018 but he could only manage three runs on his debut.
Gill said in the post-match presentation, “I made my IPL debut against SRH and got my first hundred against them, so life has come a full circle. Hopefully, many more to come. It’s all about the bowlers and situation and I don’t dwell much on my last innings. It is important to focus on the situation in front. The six off Abhishek Sharma was the most pleasing thing for me. I told him that if you bowl to me I’m gonna hit you for a six.”
On the other hand, Mohammed Shami bowled a superb opening spell to leave SRH tottering at 29-4. Shami returned with impressive figures of 4-20 in his quota of four overs as he breathed down the neck of the SRH batters with the new ball.
Shami said after the game, “I was focusing on my strengths and trying to keep it tight. I always try to bowl in good areas. Just like the game against Delhi, the ball was moving off the deck. It’s very good to have a pacer like Mohit Sharma in the middle overs who uses the variations smartly.”
Gujarat Titans will play their last league stage match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
