Mumbai Indians talismanic batter Suryakumar Yadav was delighted after their six-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday. Yadav scored a blistering knock of 83 runs from 35 balls in the run-chase of 200 runs as he helped MI get over the line with 21 balls to spare. The right-hander smashed seven fours and six sixes in his blistering knock.
After their previous match loss against Chennai Super Kings when they could only post 139 runs on the board, SKY feels it was a much-needed win for the team at this stage of the tournament. With this comprehensive win, MI climbed to the third spot in the points table with six wins in 11 matches.
Meanwhile, MI bowlers did a good job as they conceded only 47 runs in the last five overs after the RCB talismanic duo of Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell were dismissed after adding 120 runs for the third wicket.
On the other hand, Ishan Kishan gave a brisk start to his team, smashing 42 runs off 21 balls. Subsequently, SKY added a match-winning alliance of 140 runs with Nehal Wadhera, who also scored a crucial knock of 52 runs from 34 balls.
SKY was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant knock as he took the RCB bowlers to the cleaners. The 32-year-old from Mumbai revealed that the plan was to hit the ball in the gaps to score their runs.
SKY said in the post-match presentation, “Much needed from the team’s point of view. I am very happy to win a home game like this. I mean they come up with a plan. They tried to make me hit to the bigger part. Take the pace off and bowl slowly.”
He added, “I said Nehal let’s hit it hard and hit it into the gaps and run hard. Your practice has to be the same as what you intend to do in matches. I know where my runs are. We have open net sessions. I know my game. I don’t do anything different.”
Mumbai Indians will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday.
