Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has showered praise on Shubman Gill, stating performing consistently for Gujarat Titans must have given him a lot of self-confidence. Gill could only manage six runs against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Tuesday but he has had a good season so far for the defending champions.
The youngster has amassed 339 runs in nine matches at an average of 37.67 and a strike rate of 140.66. Thus, he has played a key role in giving good starts to his team at the top of the order.
In fact, Gill also played a key role in taking GT to glory in IPL 2022 as he scored 483 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of 132.32.
Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports, “All eyes will be on Shubman Gill for the next few years. He looks like a perfect timer of the cricket ball. He will play big innings and play for India in multiple formats. Performance for Gujarat Titans in TATA IPL must have given him a lot of self-confidence.”
The Turbanator also lauded Gill for his ability to play spin with confidence.
“Gill is very comfortable against spinners. He is a master of this art. If the spinner forces Gill to come forward and play, then he does not get distracted. He takes his time and plays in his own style.”
On the other hand, former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar also shed light on Shubman Gill’s game against the spinners.
“When the spinners are in the attack, Shubman Gill stays at the wicket, and that has been good for Gujarat. He reads spinners well and doesn’t take extra risks,” the former India opener stated.
GT will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Friday.
