Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav was delighted after their six-wicket win against Punjab Kings at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali on Wednesday night. The five-time champions chased down 215 runs with ease in the end after terrific knocks from Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings posted a par score of 214 runs on the board after Liam Livingstone scored a magnum opus knock of 82 runs off just 42 balls. The right-hander smashed seven fours and four sixes in his blistering knock.
Furthermore, Jitesh Sharma, promoted to number five, once again impressed with his pyrotechnics. The right-hander scored an unbeaten knock of 49 runs off just 27 balls and he added 119 runs for the fourth wicket with Livingstone.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians didn’t get off to a great start as Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck by Arshdeep Singh. However, Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green added 54 runs in the powerplay overs to help MI recover.
Subsequently, Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav kept finding the boundaries at regular intervals to keep the required run rate under check. Meanwhile, Kishan smashed seven fours and four sixes in his knock of 75 runs from 41 balls.
Suryakumar Yadav also continued his good show as he scored a blistering knock of 66 runs from 31 balls. The duo added a fine alliance of 116 runs off just 55 balls to help MI get close to the target before Tilak Varma and Tim David added the finishing touches.
Suryakumar Yadav said after the game, “Really happy we ended up on the winning side, but feel I should have finished the game. When I went in, it was important to bat with a positive mindset and obviously support Ishan who was batting really well. I always prepare for these situations, all the plans are very clear and I just try to be myself when I walk out to bat.”
He added, “I had to support Ishan and also bat with a similar strike-rate to bring the game close in the end. I actually don’t have the power game, I like to time the ball and play with the field. Really happy that the partnership helped for the winning cause.”
Mumbai Indians will next face Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Saturday.
