Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson was delighted after they registered a thumping 32-run win against Chennai Super Kings at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Thursday. RR posted a par score of 202 runs in their 200th IPL game and this was the first time when they posted more than 200 runs at their home venue.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was able to hit the ground running for the inaugural champions as he scored 40 runs off just 21 balls in the Powerplay overs. The left-hander has been batting with an aggressive approach and Thursday night was no different as he went on to score 77 runs from 43 balls with the help of eight fours and four sixes.
Subsequently, Dhruv Jurel added the finishing touches for Rajasthan Royals as he scored a fine cameo of 34 runs from 15 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. Devdutt Padikkal also smashed 27 runs from 13 balls for the Sanju Samson-led team.
On the other hand, Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers for RR as he scalped three wickets. Moreover, Ravichandran Ashwin bagged two wickets as CSK could only manage 170 runs while chasing.
Sanju Samson said in the post-match presentation, “Winning this game was needed for the team atmosphere and for the fans, also our first win in Jaipur. We can’t go one-dimensional; if you’re playing in Chinnaswamy or Wankhede, you will chase but looking at the conditions here, I took the chance to bat first.”
He added, “Even when we batted, all the youngsters came in and did the job. The mindset of attacking is a nice change. Credit has to go to the management and the support staff for what players are doing, you see Jaiswal at the RR academy during the off-season playing a lot of balls.”
Rajasthan Royals had lost their last two matches and thus it was a much-needed win for them. They were able to come up with a collective show against an in-form CSK and this win must have given them a lot of confidence.
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Mumbai Indians in the 42nd match of the ongoing IPL 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
