Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram was delighted after they defeated Delhi Capitals by nine runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Saturday. The South African feels this win will give them great confidence for the upcoming matches of the tournament.
SRH posted a par score of 197 runs on the board after Abhishek Sharma scored 67 runs from 36 balls. The youngster was given the opportunity to open the innings and he was able to grab it with both hands.
Sharma timed the ball to perfection and batted at the top of his game. However, the SRH’s middle order once again failed to deliver but Heinrich Klaasen added the finishing touches for the team as he smashed 53 runs from 27 balls.
Akeal Hosein and Abdul Samad scored 16 and 28 runs respectively for the visitors. On the other hand, DC was 112-1 after 11 overs but they failed to make the most of the excellent start.
Phillip Salt (59) and Mitchell Marsh (63) added a fine alliance of 112 runs but the middle order failed to get going. Mayank Markande bowled a superb spell as he returned with impressive figures of 2-20 in his quota of four overs for SRH.
SRH had lost their previous match against DC when they had failed to chase down 145 but they made a roaring comeback on Saturday.
Aiden Markram said in the post-match presentation, “Great team effort, good to see the guys show good skills and character. I don’t mind getting things wrong if the approach is right. It helps to see such performances, the guys will see that results are there to be had. Credit to the way the team has responded.”
He added, “Klassy has been in great form, and Abhishek did the hard work early on. Klassy backs himself to play that way, good to see it pay off. We needed wickets to get back in the game, the two were doing well and it needed a special catch from Mayank. Fortunately, the ball was stopping a bit and the bowlers showed great character to execute their spoils. This win will give us great confidence, now we travel back home and try to build on this.”
