Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has suggested that the Delhi Capitals make a tough call by replacing opener Prithvi Shaw in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Moody recommended that Mitchell Marsh should open with skipper David Warner instead of Shaw in the upcoming match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 20. This decision comes after Shaw scored only 34 runs, including two ducks, in DC’s five matches.
Moody believes that IPL 2023 may not be Shaw’s year as he has not made an impact yet. He emphasized that if the franchise gives him a few more games, their chances of staying alive in the league will be over, and DC must take necessary steps to prevent this from happening.
According to Moody, tough decisions must be made for players who are not showing any progress. “You’ve got to make a tough call on certain players that aren’t showing any light at the end of the tunnel. And on the evidence of what we’ve seen so far with Prithvi Shaw, it may well be that IPL 2023 may not be his year where he has the impact that we all hoped that he was going to have,” Moody told ESPNcricinfo.
Moody recommended that Marsh be given the opportunity to open with Warner, as Marsh is a natural enforcer who can complement Warner’s style of play. Moody also suggested that Axar Patel should bat at number five, as he has the potential to make an impact in the middle order.
“He’s (Marsh) done that before recently and he’s done it successfully. He’s naturally an enforcer, so that would complement [David] Warner, it would help him as well. You’ve got a left-right combination, you’ve got a 6ft4in and a 5ft8in batter, which is difficult to bowl to,” Moody said.
In conclusion, Moody believes that replacing Shaw with Marsh in the upcoming match against KKR is a necessary step for the Delhi Capitals to remain competitive in the IPL. The franchise must make a cold, hard decision and take action before it’s too late.
