Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram reckons they could have bowled better at the fag end of their bowling innings against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on Tuesday after suffering a 14-run loss.
MI posted a par score of 192-5 after Markram won the toss and decided to bowl first. The visitors got off to a decent start as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan adding 41 runs for the opening alliance with the former scoring 18-ball 28 to do the lion’s share of the scoring.
However, MI was 95-3 after 11.5 overs after Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed after a fine catch from Aiden Markram at mid-off. Subsequently, Tilak Varma was able to hit the ground running as he scored 17-ball 37. Cameron Green added the finishing touches for the five-time champions as he scored 64 runs from 40 balls.
In the last five overs, MI scored 83 runs for the loss of two wickets at a run rate of 13.83 and thus SRH bowlers could not stem the flow of runs.
On the other hand, SRH kept losing wickets at regular intervals and thus the required run rate was not kept under check. The Orange Army was skittled out for 178 runs as none of their batters could score a fifty.
Aiden Markram was disappointed with his team’s effort as he said, “All in all we were not at our best tonight. Credit to the boys for taking it deep. We could have done with conceding fewer runs towards the end. It (the surface) stayed pretty much the same throughout the night, on the slower side, not bad at all. Whenever we took pace off the ball did not come on to the bat.”
He added, “We made a call (to bowl first) before the toss and if the dew came in then we were in the game. There was a desperation to make things right from the previous season. Not too bummed, there are areas we can improve on and we will look to do that to give us a good chance to win the next game.”
SRH will look to bounce back stronger and they will need to come up with a collective effort. The Aiden Markram-led team will next face Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday.
