Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach Sanjay Bangar has said that they have got a lot of faith in the abilities of their inexperienced batters. RCB has clearly missed the services of Rajat Patidar, who has been ruled with a heel injury, in the middle order.
RCB has thrown opportunities to Shahbaz Ahmed, Anuj Rawat, Suyash Prabhudessai, and Mahipal Lomror but both of them have failed to grab them. The batting once again looks too dependent on the shoulders of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and skipper Faf du Plessis and thus the youngsters also need to step up.
Moreover, Dinesh Karthik hasn’t been able to find his top form and failed to add the finishing touches in the previous game against Chennai Super Kings.
Bangar said on RCB Game Day: “We have a lot of faith in the abilities of our inexperienced batters, because they have been with us for the last two years. So far, it has been a mixed bag, but we cannot forget that Mahipal scored that 30-odd or Shahbaz put that partnership in the DC game.”
Bangar continued: “So, they have not actually had the chance to bat for a long period of time, because our top order has been doing so well.”
The Faf du Plessis-led team will take on Punjab Kings on Thursday in Mohali. RCB has won three matches and lost as many while playing at the IS Bindra Stadium. Bangar said it will be crucial for the batters to run well between the wickets as the stadium has big boundaries.
“Here what will come in the equations is how well we run between the wickets, I think that is going to be key and something that you will get to see from the batting unit.”
On the other hand, RCB has once again struggled with the ball. The franchise’s Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson feels they will have to come up with a better show with the ball, especially while bowling in the death.
“I mean, we have to continue to take wickets in the powerplay, we know how challenging the middle overs can be if you don’t. Those wickets through the middle are probably an area we know we need to work on but our powerplay work has been exceptional, but we have to get better in the middle.”
RCB will take on PBKS at the IS Bindra Stadium today (April 20) in an afternoon match.
