Delhi Capitals’ director of cricket Sourav Ganguly believes his team will take time to become a good team. The Capitals have got off to a horrid start in the ongoing season of the IPL 2023, losing all of their four matches so far.
The David Warner-led team hasn’t come up with a collective batting performance as their top and middle order has failed to deliver. Furthermore, they have suffered huge losses, which has hampered their Net Run Rate. The Capitals are tottering at the bottom of the points table as they are yet to savor a single win in the season.
The Capitals suffered a six-wicket loss against Mumbai Indians in their previous match after two runs were needed off the final ball.
Ganguly was quoted as saying by the franchise’s official website: “The loss certainly hurts, especially because of the way this team has played since 2019. But these things happen in sports. It’s never easy when you lose. There are so many youngsters on our side and we’ll take time to be a good team. We’ll have to bat much better.
Meanwhile, Axar Patel smashed an impressive knock of 54 runs for the Capitals as he continued his purple patch.
“Axar was absolutely brilliant and that’s why we got a score of above 170. We need others to stand up. Lalit bowled well on the wicket in Delhi. But the most important thing for us is to get together and put runs on the board.”
The former Indian skipper is hopeful of better performances in the upcoming matches and expects the young players to stand up.
“It can only be up from here and hopefully, the young boys will turn up on the high-scoring wicket in Bengaluru. You have to find a way to make a comeback. This has happened to everyone. When you play for a period of time, you will go through such phases. It’s about going back to your rooms, looking at the mirror and asking yourself how can I change.”
The David Warner-led team will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
