Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill admitted they were well short of a par score against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday after their four-wicket loss. After being put into bat by Faf du Plessis, Gujarat Titans were skittled out for a paltry score of 147 runs.
Gujarat Titans got off to a horrid start as they lost three early wickets in the Powerplay overs, scoring 23-3 in the first six. Mohammed Siraj got rid of GT openers – Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, as he bowled at his best. Subsequently, David Miller and Shahrukh Khan added 61 runs for the fourth wicket but none of the GT batters could go past the 40-run mark.
The visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals and failed to achieve any kind of impetus in their innings.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis gave a blistering start to RCB, smashing 92 runs in the Powerplay overs. The RCB captain got to his fifty off just 18 balls, the second-fastest for the franchise. Gill said how they batted and how they bowled in the first six overs was the difference between the two teams.
Shubman Gill said after the loss, “It all depends on the wicket, you see the first couple of overs. You get an idea and you play according to that. I think 170-180 on this wicket would have been a good total. I think how we batted in the powerplay and how we bowled in the powerplay, that made a difference. We would have an extra bowling option (had we not lost early wickets.)”
He added, “Never easy. It’s important for us to start from zero (in the next game), need to move on. Many positives to take from this game, need to make sure we don’t repeat our mistakes. It’s all about winning everything we can from here on.”
GT has lost their last three matches and will want to get back to winning ways. The Shubman Gill-led team will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday.
