Former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody believes the franchise must be thrilled to have Travis Head as an opener for IPL 2024. The Orange Army was able to rope in the Australian batter for INR 6.80 crores in the IPL 2024 auction.
Head has been in terrific form in the recent past and he scored a scintillating knock of 137 runs in the all-important World Cup final against India. The left-hander is known for his aggressive batting and can turn the match on its head with his pyrotechnics.
Head has scored 205 runs in 10 IPL matches at an average of 29.29 whereas he has scored 554 runs in 23 T20I games for Australia at an average of 29.16 and a strike rate of 146.17.
Head last played in the IPL back in 2017 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“They have got a lot of options there. They have got a lot of match-winners. The one thing we don’t know is who is going to captain his side. One thing we do know is that I heard Muttiah Muralitharan during the auction that they were thrilled to get Travis Head because they wanted him as an opener,” Moody said on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, apart from Travis Head, Sunrisers Hyderabad was able to rope in players like Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs. 1.5 crore), Pat Cummins (Rs. 20.50 crore), Jaydev Unadkat (Rs. 1.60 crore), Akash Singh (Rs. 20 lakh), Jhathavedh Subramanyan (Rs. 20 lakh).
