Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre hailed Abishek Porel after their 20-run win against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday. Porel scored a fine knock of 65 runs off just 36 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes to help his team post a par score of 221 runs on the board.
The left-hander played a second-fiddle role in his opening alliance of 60 runs with Jake Fraser-McGurk, who smashed a 19-ball 50. The southpaw completed his maiden IPL fifty off 28 balls as he batted at the top of his game. Porel has scored 267 runs in 10 innings at an average of 33.38 and a strike rate of 157.98 in the ongoing IPL 2024.
Porel had scored a fine cameo of 10-ball 32 against Punjab Kings in the opening match of the season for DC when he came out as an impact sub.
“The first game against Punjab he did not even know till the 18th over that he will be playing a game, and he delivered a 9-ball 30 which was awesome. You know it is always good to see an Indian batsman perform. We were impressed with him in the nets and he has shown that against the new ball he bats very well. So we thought to give him the opportunity to bat up the order. He played a special innings today,” DC assistant coach Praveen Amre said after the match.
Amre revealed David Warner is yet to recover from the hand injury he suffered earlier in the season.
“Warner is still not a hundred per cent fit and that’s why we sent Porel up the order,” Amre further added.
Delhi Capitals will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
