Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Mahipal Lomror lauded Dinesh Karthik for playing the finisher role with great success. After losing their opening match against CSK, RCB got off the mark in IPL 2024 as they defeated the Punjab Kings at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Monday by four wickets.
While chasing 177 against the visitors, RCB found themselves in some trouble at 130-6 after 16.2 overs. However, Dinesh Karthik and impact player Mahipal Lomror added the finishing touches to get their first win of the season.
Karthik smashed a blistering knock of 28 runs off just 10 balls whereas Lomror added 8-ball 17. The veteran batter smashed three fours and two sixes in his fine cameo.
“I think batting with him makes things really easy for us because he is an experienced guy. He now has 15 years of experience in IPL, 15-17 years. He has been playing that role for such a long time now. He has executed his plans really well,” Lomror said while applauding Karthik’s batting skills.
While discussing his experience of batting with the veteran batter, Lomror said, “Today, I was batting with him and he was just telling me to stay calm and focus on the next ball, focus on the job in hand. Not to get overexcited or not to get aggressive. Just focus on the ball. That kind of small talk always helps and that’s the experience he brings to the team and he has been doing that job of finisher really well.”
Meanwhile, Lomror added that the team’s think tank has been clear about his role in the team and they have asked him to prepare as a finisher with impact player rule.
“Yeah, this is what team management wants me to prepare, like for this role and they have communicated really well about this and they are very clear. Because we have a really good and strong batting lineup. That’s the only place where they can shuffle and use me. They are very clear about it from the first day and I am also preparing for the same,” he said.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Friday.
