Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain Sam Curran was gutted for the team after they were knocked out of IPL 2024, following their 60-run loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Thursday.
RCB posted a par score of 241 runs on the board after Curran decided to bowl first. RCB opener Virat Kohli continued his rich form as he scored a fine knock of 92 runs off 47 balls with the help of seven fours and six sixes.
Kohli had the rub of the green as he was dropped on naught by Ashutosh Sharma and then received another reprieve from Rilee Rossouw when he was on 10. Furthermore, Rajat Patidar was able to hit the ground running, completing his fifty off just 21 balls.
Kohli and Patidar added 76 runs for the third wicket as both the right-handers played at the top of their game.
On the other hand, PBKS was skittled out for 181 as Rilee Rossouw was the lone warrior, scoring 61 off 27 balls. Meanwhile, PBKS suffered close losses throughout the season and failed to make it to the last four, for the 10th time in a row.
Sam Curran said after the loss, “A lot of positive signs throughout the season, but not enough to get over the line unfortunately. We knew that we had the best side for the rest of the tournament and feel gutted for the team. Gotta keep our heads up, keep learning, and keep becoming better.”
The Englishman added, “Really enjoyed leading a great bunch of guys, would have loved a few more wins. We had some highs, and some record run-chases as well. Lots of disappointment and apologies to the fans, we will keep fighting. The ups and downs have been quite tough, but you gotta keep learning and keep working hard.”
Punjab Kings will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Wednesday.
