The defending champions Chennai Super Kings lost their previous match against Delhi Capitals by 20 runs and former CSK all-rounder Shane Watson wants the team to learn from their mistakes. Watson reckons promoting MS Dhoni up in the batting order could be one step in the right direction for the franchise.
Dhoni scored a blitzkrieg knock of 16-ball 37 with the help of four fours and three maximums in his maiden knock of IPL 2024 against DC. The former CSK captain’s efforts went in vain as they could not get over the line.
Dhoni has all the experience under his belt to add the finishing touches and he was bludgeoning the ball with great timing against DC.
“CSK will be learning from the little things that went wrong against Delhi in their last game and make the most of the things that went incredibly well. One thing was Dhoni, the way he batted, coming in late in the game, which will mean that hopefully, he’ll move up the order when an opportunity presents itself, because he batted as well as I’ve seen him for a long time,” Shane Watson told JioCinema.
“The lessons that CSK learned, that’s the reason why they’ve been so successful for so long because they’ll find out little elements they need to get better, they need to execute better and where they went wrong and they’ll learn from that. So they’ll be ready to go against Hyderabad,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings won their opening two matches of the season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans but they were stunned by Delhi Capitals.
CSK’s captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s form is also a cause of concern for the team as he has failed to make any decent contribution with the bat. Furthermore, CSK will miss the services of Mustafizur Rahman for the Friday match against Sunrisers Hyderabad as the left-arm seamer has returned to Bangladesh for the visa process for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
