Rajasthan Royals’ gun fast bowler Trent Boult continued his domination against Rohit Sharma as he had him caught behind to Sanju Samson in the 14th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday.
The former MI captain was dismissed for a golden duck as Boult got the ball to move away from the right-hander. This was the 17th time when Rohit has been dismissed on a duck in the IPL, the joint-most along with Dinesh Karthik.
After dismissing Rohit Sharma, the New Zealander plumbed rookie batter Naman Dhir in front of the wickets. Subsequently, Boult also had impact substitute Dewald Brevis dismissed to have MI reeling at 14-3. The experienced Kiwi pacer was able to make the most of the swinging conditions and breathed down the neck of the opposition.
Boult returned with match-winning figures of 3-22 in his quota of four overs and thus he played a key role in restricting MI to 125-9 and was awarded Player of the Match.
Speaking on first-over wickets, Trent Boult said in the post-match presentation, “Never a certainty in this format, but happy to fill my role and take wickets with the new ball. We won the toss, did what we spoke about, got a couple of wickets and put the pressure on the batters.”
Boult has now dismissed Rohit on five occasions in T20s whereas the batter has scored only 69 runs in 14 innings against the left-arm seamer.
On Rohit Sharma’s wicket, Boult said, “I’ve played against him a lot, and it is just about doing something different against him. Doesn’t always work this way, but happy when it does. Nandre has been a great find, wears his heart on his chest like a lot of SA bowlers do. Sandy has been doing well, although he missed out today. Ash and Chahal always chip in as well. Good to be part of this bowling unit.”
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Saturday.
